6 months Week3
Your baby loves the view of the world around her from a sitting position and she’s working very hard to maintain her balance. She’s now tri-sitting (sitting with 1 hand on the floor for support).Aside from the annoyances of teething, this phase of your baby’s life is filled with boundless energy. Feeding and changing her nappy is now a hassle, she squirms and arches her back as you hold her, this is her way of saying “hey put me down, can’t you see I’m busy?”
Putting toys in her bath can keep her entertained but be ready to get wet as she’ll splash water and laugh as she sees this, play along mom!
Helping your baby develop her language skills
As your baby’s language skills become more precise, it is important for you to help her develop and improve this skill, here is how:
- Always speak clearly and slowly when speaking with baby.
- Identify objects showing them to baby as you say their names, using short sentences.
- Focus on repetition. Singing the same songs or reciting the same nursery rhymes not only entertains your baby, but repetition will help her learn.
- Repeat the sounds your baby makes, after some time slightly alter the sounds and wait for her to repeat them to you.
- Don’t talk at your baby. Give her time to respond even if it’s just in her own words.
Your baby and sleep
- You are probably wondering how she does it, being so busy and sleeping so little, here is what you can try to make sleep time easier:
- Begin setting some limits for future discipline by reducing stimulation and establishing routines.
- Encourage baby to console herself by putting her to bed awake, although due to the emergence of stranger anxiety, she may show resistance to going to sleep for naps and night sleep.
- Provide your baby with a transitional object, could be a stuffed animal toy or a special blanket, and put her to bed with it.
- Some 6 month-old babies begin night awakenings for short periods. Should this happen, check on her but keep the visit short and avoid switching on the light and leave the room quickly once you feel everything
