2-Week-Old Baby
She may be tiny but your little bundle of joy sure can eat a lot. Feed me, Mommy!
Your baby’s appetite has arrived and she’s feeding up a storm! You’re probably feeling like a dairy cow right now. Who would have thought that a baby could drink that much?
Because you’re now doing the pyjama drill, waking every two to four hours at night to feed your baby, you need to find time in your day to recover. Sleep when your baby sleeps (I wish I had listened to this bit of advice from my mom). It doesn’t matter if your house is a disaster zone and if it’s eleven o’clock in the morning. What matters is that you’re sane enough to look after your baby.
Your baby will still probably sleep for long periods, but around now, she’ll start spending longer periods awake. She’ll quietly observe her immediate world, so spend time with her in your arms, talking, singing or just staring at her.
Her favourite thing in the whole wide world right now is you!
Around this time, your baby may develop colic. It’s a time that will be incredibly frustrating for you and your baby as she cries and cries and cries. There will be moments where you will feel completely overwhelmed, so find someone, your partner, mother, sister or friend, to look after your baby for half an hour while you have a bath or a nap to recover.
There is hope … colic usually ends by the third month.
How are you feeling mom (apart from feeling like a zombie)? You may be suffering from baby blues, crying over what seems to be nothing. Find some more time for yourself to relax, after all you’re exhausted. You can also speak to your doctor about giving you some medication to help you cope.
Your perineum may still be tender, so hold off on sex if you have to. Once you’re properly healed you can have all the sex you want.
