7 Months week 1
Baby proofing your home
Your baby is about to get very mobile any day now. She’s attempting to crawl, some babies jump this stage and go right to standing while holding onto furniture.
This is a good time to start baby proofing your home (if you haven’t already) remember that making your home safe for baby is almost a daily chore. Here are some important things to watch out for:
- Keep coins, small toys, nail scissors and balloons, any item that is small enough to fit inside a cardboard toilet paper roll out of baby’s reach.
- Remove mobiles and other hanging toys from the crib as soon as your baby can reach up and touch them.
- Place houseplants out of baby’s reach, know the names of all plants in case baby eats any of them.
- Cover every electrical outlet in your home with a child resistant outlet cover.
- Install safety gates at the top and bottom of stairways.
- Keep appliance cords wrapped short so baby cannot pull coffee makers, kettle’s etc.
- Pad the edges of coffee tables and brick or tile fire places.
- Avoid table cloths that hang as baby can easily pull them.
- Lock any potentially dangerous substance, such as household cleaning formulas, laundry suppliers and medicines in an upper level cabinet.
- Make sure the floor is clean to avoid baby hurting knees and hands while she’s discovering her new found hobby.
- Don’t hesitate to get down on all fours, crawling, this gives you a better view of the ground floor. You’ll be able to see small objects.
